Recruitment/Donations
To the Wrestling Community,
This year is the first year of competition for the club. The club competes on a national level. The liberty of wrestling for a club is much greater than that of a varsity program. While we would like for LSU to have a varsity program, this is simply out of reach for years to come. The club can compete at any open tournament and many clubs compete against DII and DIII schools on a regular basis. This is where we want Tiger Wrestling Club to be. The NCWA has currently approximately 150 club teams nationwide. Check out the NCWA website for more information (be warned, the site can be slow). Finally, any LSU student may participate in the club. This includes individuals who simply want to work out on the mat instead of the treadmill and individuals who want to compete just a couple of times per year. Flexibility is the advantage that we must use to our benefit.
We have spent two years working hard to lay the foundation for the club. We have a brand new 45 X 45 Resilite mat. Now we simply need to let you, the public and wrestling community know that we are here to stay.
The club thrives on money raised by the wrestlers and paid out by the wrestlers themselves. This is the largest problem the club faces. This coming year we must raise outside money if we would like to continue competing. Wrestlers simply cannot afford to pay out one hundred or more dollars per weekend per individual to compete (which is what we have averaged throughout the season). Next year we would like to have competitions every week. The only way the club will survive is with the growth of the supporting community and contributions to the club. We are currently reviewing fundraising ideas to help defray travel costs for next season. Please contact either Joshua Kotter (jkotte1@lsu.edu) or Mark Englehardt (mengle3@lsu.edu) if you have any questions/comments about the club.
To the interested wrestlers attending LSU,
Interested wrestlers please contact either Christopher Beasley (cbeasl2@lsu.edu)
or Dustin Lail (dlail1@lsu.edu).
We hope to have a minimum of 20 new wrestlers in the Fall of 2009.
Especially in response to the great attention that we received at the Louisiana
High School State Championships last weekend, this estimation may be quite low. Most
competitions we are able to take two wrestlers at each weight. Wrestle-offs
will determine the point scorer for the varsity team. There will be a
pre-season conditioning program to prepare wrestlers for the 2009-2010 season.
Updates will be posted to the website when available so keep checking and as
things develop we will let you know. Please feel free to
contact us with any and all questions, concerns, comments.
Thank you for your support
